Crematorium team’s bright idea for a fund-raiser

A team from Vale Royal Crematorium had the bright idea of raising some funds for a local hospice – by taking part in a 5K Colour Rush event.

 

Manager Dave Haslam and a team of colleagues, their partners and children took part in the Colour Rush (Nantwich) 2023 event to raise money for St Luke’s Cheshire Hospice.

 

Vale Royal Crematorium is part of Westerleigh Group, one of the UK’s largest independent owners and operators of crematoria and cemeteries, with 39 sites in England, Scotland, and Wales, all set within beautifully landscaped gardens of remembrance which provide pleasant, tranquil places for people to visit and reflect.

 

It’s not the first time Dave and his team have raised money for St Luke’s Cheshire Hospice, which has been providing palliative care to local people since 1988.

 

Dave said: “We arrived in our white St Luke’s ‘colour rush me in’ T-shirts and ended the day in a rainbow of colours.

 

“I personally was well covered by the St Luke’s volunteers on the orange paint station!”

 

The 5K course involved a slip and slide, bubble station and a cargo net station, throughout all of which participants were doused in coloured powder – made from food-grade cornstarch – in a wide variety of bright shades.

 

Dave added: “I was joined by Nichola Hodkinson, with her husband Aaron and son, Elliot, Issac Ford and his wife Josie, Marrianne Pilling and her partner Michael, and we were also joined by Emma Ecclestone from Griffiths & Booth Funeral Directors, along with her son, Bobby.

 

“We’ve raised £100 for St Luke’s and we all had a great time.

 

“We are looking forward to participating in future events to support the hospice, which provides such valuable support to people from our local communities during very challenging times in their lives, something that resonates with what we do at Vale Royal Crematorium.

 

“It gives us a great sense of pride to be able to raise money for the hospice to support all the vital work they do.”
